HJ's 9 month check up and appointment with the nutritionist
So yesterday was Hayden Jack's 9 month well baby check. He was suppose to see dr. Dygo (which is also his nutritionist) because I dont like any other dr. there. So when I get there some residents walk in and tell me Im seeing Hayden today and I told them no I want his dr. they told me I dont have the say so over who my child sees or dont see there. So after they evaluated him and blew all my questions off without answering any I cursed them out big time. BTW he was 14 lbs and 25.3 in which is 6.3kg and 63 cm. So afterwards I tried to make an apt with his special dr (who is also nutritionist and specializes in low weight babies) and they told me I may be able to get an apt in August but wasnt for sure yet!!!! I immediately went out of there and switched drs to the pedi that my 3 older boys see. He did another 9 mnth well visit on HJ said he was way too small and he's probably a perfect little boy but he wanted to give me all the answers and test for everything just to make sure he doenst have anything wrong with him. They did bloodwork and all (thyroid, chemisty? and other blood tests to test for anything possible to do with growth). I was so happy someone was understanding my concerns. Prescribed him some vitamin supplement drops also. Just having to wait on the test results now. He goes back in a month for another recheck :) Oh and on the way home (im assuming my new pedi called the nutritionist/special dr)because Dr. Dygo called and wanted to see Hayden first thing in the morning at 10:20 :)
Today we went to Dr. Dygo (the specialist/nutritionist) and of course she was wonderful! So caring and understanding and definately agreed that HJ was very underweight and definately needed to gain. The first thing she did was take down what he eats and how much/how often each day. Since he's never been offically allergy tested she's sending him to an allergy specialist and going to see if he has a definate milk allergy (which will never go away) or a milk intolerance (which means he will be able to have milk in the future). She also suggested we switch from powdered formula to concentrated because concentrated formula is thicker than powder and will "stick" to him better. She also told me to continue putting the olive oil in his veggies and meats everyday. She also wants him off pureed foods and on to stage 3 foods only!!! Again because of stage 3 being thick it will "stick" to him better. She wants me to add an extra meal to his schedule, which will be cereal mixed with his formula before bed. She wants him having meats twice per day instead of once (lunch and supper), She wants him to have fruit for dessert at breakfast, lunch, and supper and with the fruit add 1 scoop of nutramigen formula powder to his fruit 3 times per day. offer avacados, baby meat sticks, puffs, more fruit with scoop of powder formula in it, etc. as snacks throughout the day, along with his 5-6 6oz bottles of formula per day! Thats alot of food for a tiny baby so good thing he loves to eat and doesnt turn down food LOL. She wants to see him back in 3-4 weeks and hoping for a big weight gain :) so keep your fingers crossed!
